Sturgis Falls 1/2 Marathon

Run 440 plus will be at the Sturgis Falls Half Marathon in Cedar Falls, IA this Sunday June 26th. I will signing autographs and taking pictures with my fans after the race. Right, if I had fans that is.

Seriously, I am looking forward to a training run on a race day. 16 miles with 13.1 being part of the race and the rest being warmup and cool down. My hamstring has been tight lately, so my race goals are not very high. It will be a race day decision whether to push for a faster start corral qualifying time for Chicago or just taking it easy and finishing the race.

Oh well, such is the life of a 40 plus runner. Dealing with the limp of the week.

Summer for Running

With the weather so agreeable for running, it is difficult to sit down and write. Summer should be a time for little need to push and prod to get out the door and run. Running this time of year is a given. The sun should be motivation enough. What better way to enjoy the outdoors than a trial run or a vacation sightseeing run.

Don’t need me to tell ya.

Hot Day Hangover

When one hot day follows another followed by another and so on, running can put one into a state of dangerous dehydration. I am not quite sure if I hit hangover type symptoms, but I did feel weak, delirious and the sunscreen in my eyes had me staggering all over the road like a bad flashback sequence.

Cutting a workout or run short can be the right decision when  the temps just don’t allow for a healthy situation. As much as I like to push through pain and discomfort to maximize my conditioning, playing it safe when necessary is just the right thing to do for my health and my family’s security.

Question for the day: What training mistakes have you made that would help others make better training discisions?

Chicago Training Off and Running

The gun has fired on my first week of my 18 week Chicago Marathon Training. Wow another 18 weeks. It seems like not so long ago (January 10th to be exact) I started my training for Fargo. It is weird to have that many weeks ahead of me again, but I am psyched to put Fargo behind me and really dig in to another chance at Boston glory. I have tweaked my schedule and am going back to long long runs of 20-24 miles. I hope the more familar plan will give me the more desired results.

I have a few 1/2 marathons planned for the summer as well as the most awesome race of all time, the Bix 7 miler. If you haven’t already, put the Bix 7 on your list as it is the best race in the midwest. Google that  bad boy.

Good luck with your training.
